I think everyone of us, Slovenian exchange students, are dealing with the same problems right now...most of the people don't know anything about Slovenia or at least they have totally wrong image of it. Everybody knows that Paris is in France, that Germans speaks German language that Austria has Alps, that Italy has Venice, that Mexicans eat Tacos, that Scandinavian girls are mostly blonde, ..... But Slovenia is kind of a mysterious land which hasn't been discovered yet.
Don't get me wrong, people know where Slovenia is, but usually don't know anything about it or have totally wrong image of it. So for all my foreign friends: Slovenia IS in EU, we have our own language called Slovenian, we are not undeveloped, third country, we don't have to learn Russian in our schools and we don't understand every Slavic language in the world, we weren't part of the Soviet Union in the past and we are independent country for more than 20 years now...
I don't blame anybody for not knowing about how it is in Slovenia, but i would really like to show people my country, where i was born ad raised and where is the only place in the world that is really my home. Maybe i am hot really good example for promoting Slovenia since i write in English, but that doesn't mean that i don't love my country and my mother tongue,it's just means that i can present it to more people all over the world, so they will also see how Slovenia is great and beautiful:)
